Staff in Reuters global headquarters at South Colonnade in London have developed a new relationship with one of their neighbours - Mulberry School for Girls in Tower Hamlets.  The first events in this exciting new programme will take place over the coming weeks starting in November 2006.

Despite being based only 1.5 miles from Canary Wharf, the girls have not traditionally seen a professional city job as being within their reach.   The programme has therefore been developed with four core objectives:

• to expose the girls to a professional environment and to stimulate discussions about their potential careers
• to encourage the girls to step out into their wider community, helping to contribute something back to their own neighbourhood
• to build the esteem and awareness of the girls
• to enable Reuters volunteers to learn about their local Tower Hamlets community and to develop their own communication, networking and presentation skills

The programme follows a series of student initiatives in South Colonnade run to help students from our diverse community widen their career aspirations whilst also introducing Reuters managers to the range of local talent available.

It is intended that this programme will not be restricted to London staff and that in future we may be able to link the students of Mulberry School with other schools around the world including those that we have existing relationships with in New York and Tiverton.
